Kindergarten teacher Sharon Cuba earns top regional honor from Magnet Schools of America.

A kindergarten teacher at San Antonito STEM Magnet School has earned a major national recognition for her dedication to students and innovative teaching.

Sharon Cuba was recently named Region V Teacher of the Year by Magnet Schools of America, an honor that recognizes outstanding magnet educators across the country.

The award highlights educators who demonstrate excellence in magnet instruction, student engagement, leadership and innovation in the classroom.

Cuba is known for creating a nurturing classroom environment where young learners feel supported, encouraged and excited to explore new ideas. Families and colleagues say her calm and patient approach helps students feel safe while also challenging them with hands-on STEM learning experiences.

"Mrs. Cuba embodies what it means to be an innovative and student-centered educator," said San Antonito STEM Magnet Elementary Principal Patricia Gallegos. "She seamlessly integrates STEM practices into her daily instruction, creating learning environments where curiosity is encouraged, creativity is visible and students feel empowered to explore new ideas. Her ability to design engaging, hands-on lessons that foster problem-solving and inquiry has made a profound impact on her young learners."

The recognition is a point of pride for the entire San Antonito community and highlights the impact educators across Albuquerque Public Schools have on students every day.
