Open House Season Is in Full Swing
APS schools are welcoming families back with events that build connections, community and partnerships for student success.
School is officially back in session here in APS, and you know what that means: it’s Open House season! This is one of the most exciting times of the year for our Family Engagement Unit, as staff have the opportunity to visit schools and see firsthand how our communities are coming together. Recently, members of the team visited several of our amazing schools, including Mary Ann Binford, Apache, George I. Sanchez and Emerson.
The welcoming spirit across our district is truly inspiring.
At Mary Ann Binford, the excitement was palpable. New Principal Denise Gomez extended a warm and collaborative invitation to parents, sharing a powerful message: "We need families' involvement. You are the experts on your child—together we will be successful."
To make the evening even sweeter, the school hosted "Popsicles with the Principal." Families loved the relaxed, approachable atmosphere. As parent Carmen Nevarez shared, "We love when the school has events like this. It gives us an opportunity to get to know our staff and to be more involved."
The energy was just as vibrant over at Apache Elementary, where they hosted a fantastic Family Engagement Tie-Dye Night. With upbeat music playing and creativity flowing, it was a joy to watch families connect. Parents and students enjoyed the chance to talk, laugh and build relationships with their peers and school staff in such a fun, engaging environment.
There were also wonderful visits to George I. Sanchez and Emerson, where the dedication to students was just as evident. Across all these campuses, the takeaway is exactly the same: when schools and families partner together, our children thrive.
The APS Family Engagement Unit plays an important role in supporting schools as they build strong, meaningful partnerships with families. From helping schools strengthen their engagement strategies to celebrating the connections happening in our communities, the team is there to support schools in creating welcoming environments where every family feels valued and connected.
