Mountain View Students Get a Close Look at Bees
Students learn about pollinators through a live hive demonstration from local beekeeping experts.
First-grade students at Mountain View Elementary recently got an up-close look at the fascinating world of bees thanks to a special classroom visit from the New Mexico Beekeepers Association.
Tiffany and Pamela from the organization visited Ms. Sarah’s and Ms. Baca’s classrooms, bringing a live hive demonstration safely enclosed behind glass so students could observe the bees at work. The interactive presentation gave students a chance to see how a hive operates and learn about the important roles bees play in nature.
Students explored the different responsibilities within a hive, including the roles of worker bees, drones and the queen. They also learned how bees communicate and work together, even getting to move and “dance” like bees as part of the lesson.
Beyond the hive, the visit helped students understand why pollinators are so important and how they can help protect them. Students learned simple ways to support bees and other pollinators in their own communities, such as planting flowers and creating bee baths.
The experience combined hands-on learning with movement and exploration, leaving students buzzing with excitement about the natural world.
