Posted May 21, 2026, 8:00 AM. Updated May 20, 2026, 3:00 PM.

Annual Spring Showcase highlights STEM learning, arts integration and student-designed projects.

Students at Mission Avenue Elementary School proudly shared their learning with family and friends during the school's annual Spring Showcase. From scientific adventures like exploring a Mars habitat to theatrical performances of stories such as Stellaluna, students highlighted their Genius Hour projects and STEM/Magnet work from the semester.

This nationally certified magnet school hosts the community event each year to celebrate student creativity and innovation through activities ranging from glow-in-the-dark art and robotics to studies on palm oil, physics, ecosystems, erosion, and the water cycle. Students programmed robots, created clay art, and brought multicultural studies to life by designing low riders and showcasing real lowrider vehicles on campus.

More than 300 family and community members attended the event, which demonstrated how students use the design process in their daily learning. Community partners, including Sandia National Laboratories, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Albuquerque Police Department, and Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, also helped make the showcase a success.
