Meteorologist Visits Chaparral Kindergartners
KOAT 7's Byron Morton brought the weather unit to life with hands-on science and a firsthand look at forecasting.
Chaparral Elementary School kindergartners have spent the past several weeks studying weather, and their unit wrapped up with a visit they won't soon forget.
Byron Morton, meteorologist from KOAT 7, stopped by to meet with students and bring their classroom learning into the real world. He walked them through how meteorologists track weather patterns and led a hands-on experiment exploring evaporation, condensation and precipitation, concepts the students had been building toward all unit long.
For young learners, seeing a familiar face from the news show up in their school and demonstrate the science behind what they'd been studying made the learning tangible in a way a textbook simply can't.
It's exactly the kind of community partnership Chaparral has cultivated to connect students to the wider world waiting for them beyond the classroom.
