Governor Bent Students Race Toward Wellness at “Run for the Gold”
Schoolwide event celebrates fitness, teamwork and healthy habits with help from local running program.
Students at Governor Bent Elementary School recently laced up their running shoes for a schoolwide celebration of health and wellness during the Run for the Gold event.
Held March 13 on campus, the event brought students together for a fun race experience complete with race bibs, medals and an inflatable finish line. Families and community members were invited to attend and cheer on the runners as students crossed the finish line and celebrated their accomplishments.
The event is part of the school’s commitment to supporting students’ physical, social and emotional well-being. All students at Governor Bent participate in programming through RunFit, a local nonprofit that teaches healthy behaviors, builds character and gives young runners opportunities to showcase their progress.
This year’s race also included a fundraising component to help sustain the event in the future, with families and community members invited to run alongside students and celebrate healthy living together.
The excitement and energy of the day even caught the attention of local media. KOB 4 featured the event, highlighting the program's positive impact on students and the school community.
Events like Run for the Gold show how schools can bring together fitness, character development and community support to help students thrive.
