Family Liaisons Strengthen Skills to Support APS Goals

Posted August 13, 2025, 12:40 PM. Updated August 13, 2025, 12:43 PM.

Thirty-five APS family liaisons complete training to boost engagement, equity and student success.

This year, 35 dedicated family liaisons completed a comprehensive professional development training focused on strengthening family engagement. The training, presented by the Family Engagement Unit, centered on the foundational values for systemic engagement, including equity, effective communication and creating a welcoming environment.

The liaisons' training was designed to align their work with the district's four goals and five guardrails for student achievement. The goals include increasing proficiency in early literacy, math and post-secondary readiness, as well as fostering life skills, habits and mindsets.

Family liaisons were equipped with strategies to support these goals by assisting with initiatives such as family literacy nights, coordinating math events and hosting workshops on advanced education readiness. Liaisons were instructed in various methods to help families navigate school hierarchy, access resources and uplift their voices in school improvement efforts. The training also emphasized using the SMART Goals framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound) and data tracking to make their impact visible and align their work with school-wide priorities.

Great work, liaisons!
