Ernie Pyle Students Explore College Life at NMSU
Eighth-grade students visit campus through the Aggie Next Step Program.
Eighth-grade AVID students from Ernie Pyle Middle School recently got a firsthand look at college life during a visit to New Mexico State University.
The trip was part of the Aggie Next Step Program, which students participated in this year through their 4-H program. Throughout the school year, students participated in college and career exploration lessons designed to help them begin thinking about future pathways and opportunities.
The two-day visit to Las Cruces allowed students to explore the NMSU campus and learn about the many academic programs available. By seeing the campus environment and hearing about different fields of study, students were able to better understand what college life could look like for them in the future.
The experience also included a fun highlight: attending a basketball game and cheering on the New Mexico State Aggies.
Educators say experiences like this help students begin envisioning themselves in college and career settings while building excitement about their future goals.
