Students combine entrepreneurship, creativity and financial literacy during annual showcase.

Fifth-grade students at Edward Gonzales Elementary School recently put their creativity and business skills on display during the school’s third annual Business Fair.

Families and local business owners attended the event to hear student presentations, provide feedback and offer suggestions on business ideas developed by students throughout the project.

Students created a wide variety of businesses, many centered around food items such as banana bread, chocolate-dipped treats, handmade gummies and elote. Others focused on services including trash pickup and yard cleaning.

In addition to presenting their ideas, students gathered feedback from guests and even shared samples and demonstrations of their products and services.

Teachers Ms. Padilla and Ms. Richesin said the project helps students connect entrepreneurship with real-world lessons in economics and financial literacy while building communication and problem-solving skills.

The event gave students an opportunity to think creatively, practice public speaking and experience what it takes to turn an idea into a business plan.
