Posted October 20, 2025, 3:33 PM. Updated October 20, 2025, 3:33 PM.

Students and families took part in outdoor adventures, fitness challenges and hands-on learning during National Family PE Week.

Dennis Chavez Elementary celebrated National Family PE Week by welcoming families into physical education classes for a week of fun, fitness and connection.

Students and their families joined warm-up exercises and participated in culminating activities tied to the school’s Outdoors Unit, where students learned to navigate with compasses and maps.

Fourth- and fifth-graders put their new skills to the test with an on-campus orienteering course, while second- and third-graders completed a closed course challenge. The youngest students—kindergarten and first grade—had fun with a cardinal and ordinal directions activity, learning how to move north, south, east and west in interactive ways.

The week highlighted the importance of movement, teamwork and family involvement in student wellness. Families left energized and inspired by the creativity and enthusiasm of the Dennis Chavez PE program.
