Community partners help students discover hands-on career opportunities across public and private sectors.

Students at Comanche Elementary School wrapped up the school year with a hands-on Career Exploration Day designed to introduce them to a wide variety of future career paths.

Thanks to support from community partners across Albuquerque, students had the opportunity to learn directly from professionals representing both public- and private-sector careers. From building engineering models with a civil engineer to climbing into the cab of the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s giant snow plow, “Alice Scooper,” students explored careers in interactive and engaging ways.

The event featured participation from community organizations, including Albuquerque Ambulance Service, Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, City of Albuquerque Sanitation Department, civil engineer Jaan Yang, Duke City Redi Mix, PNM, New Mexico Department of Transportation, and Albuquerque Police Department.

School leaders said the event helped students connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities and encouraged curiosity about future careers.

Comanche Elementary also expressed gratitude to the community partners who volunteered their time to make the event possible during a busy end-of-year and holiday period.
