APS Shines at the National Magnet Conference
Educators from across the district earn national recognition while sharing innovative magnet programs with schools nationwide.
Albuquerque Public Schools made a strong impression at this year’s National Magnet Conference in San Diego, where APS principals, teachers and implementation coaches came together to learn, collaborate and celebrate the district’s magnet programs.
APS educators participated in learning sessions and school tours showcasing innovative practices in magnet schools across the country. The visits gave participants a chance to see new ideas in action and bring inspiration back to their own campuses.
“It was especially inspiring to know that you participated in school tours where you could see innovative practices in action and bring fresh ideas back to your campuses,” APS Assistant Superintendent of Magnet Schools Francesca Ver Ploegh said. “Beyond that, there is the opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the country.”
APS also received several notable honors during the conference:
- Inez STEM Magnet Elementary was recognized as a National Demonstration Magnet School, one of the highest honors awarded to magnet programs nationwide.
- Sharon Cuba of San Antonito STEM Magnet Elementary was named Region V Teacher of the Year.
- Roosevelt Global Leadership Magnet led a breakout session, and APS’s Sustaining the Future Environmental STEM K–12 Pathway also presented a breakout session highlighting its work.
“APS represented itself at a high level,” Ver Ploegh added. “Once again, congratulations to all of our educators who continue to lead and inspire.”
