Three APS campuses recognized for excellence in design, modernization and student-centered learning environments.

Three Albuquerque Public Schools projects have been recognized by AIA Albuquerque as part of the 2025 Architecture Design Awards Program, highlighting outstanding design work that supports teaching, learning and community connection.

The annual awards program celebrates architectural excellence across the region and honors projects that demonstrate thoughtful design, strong functionality and lasting impact. Three architects who worked on APS school projects were recognized across multiple award levels, including the program’s highest distinction, the Honor Award.

Sierra Vista Elementary School received a Citation Award for its Classroom Block Expansion, designed by SMPC Architects. The project enhances the existing campus through improved spatial connections, increased natural daylight, and a modernized learning environment that supports both students and educators.

Two APS campuses earned Honor Awards in the General Design category. Arroyo Del Oso Elementary School, designed by ROMA Architecture, was recognized for its integrated approach to modernization, with an emphasis on daylight, high-quality learning spaces and strong indoor-outdoor connections that enrich the student experience. The Truman Middle School Rebuild, designed by Edward Fitzgerald / Architects, was honored for its sophisticated architectural presence, spatial clarity and welcoming, dignified environment that supports daily school life.

AIA Albuquerque’s Design Awards Program recognizes projects that set a standard of excellence, promote public appreciation for architecture and highlight the role design plays in shaping meaningful spaces. These honors reflect APS’s continued commitment to creating school environments that inspire learning and serve students, staff and communities well into the future.
