District highlights innovative magnet programs and calls for continued federal support to expand equitable student opportunities.
A team of Albuquerque Public Schools leaders traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate for continued federal support of APS magnet schools and to share the impact these innovative programs are having on students across the district.
Representing APS were Rio Grande High School Principal Antionette Valenzuela, Mountain View Elementary Principal Kathryn Ramsey, School Choice Executive Director Joseph Escobedo and Assistant Superintendent Francesca Ver Ploegh.
During their visit, leaders highlighted how APS magnet programs expand access to hands-on learning, specialized pathways and unique academic experiences that prepare students for college, career and lifelong success. They also discussed the importance of ongoing federal investment to ensure all students—including historically underserved populations—can benefit from high-quality magnet opportunities.
APS remains committed to offering diverse, engaging learning pathways that help every student thrive and discover their future.
