Alvarado Opens New Sensory Room
Funded by an APS Education Foundation grant, the portable-turned-wellness-space offers tailored sensory breaks and mindfulness tools for students and staff.
Alvarado Elementary School has officially launched its new Sensory Room, giving students and staff a dedicated space designed to support emotional regulation, focus and mental wellbeing.
The transformation of one of the school’s portables into a serene sensory environment was made possible through a grant from the APS Education Foundation, which funded a wide range of specialized sensory tools and equipment.
The space debuted at the end of last school year, when staff gathered for an inaugural mindfulness session led by an Alvarado teacher. This school year, the room is actively integrated into daily campus life. While primarily utilized by the school's behavior director and counselors for targeted support, the space is also available for entire classrooms to drop in for relaxing, structured sensory breaks.
