Summer Programs

Enrichment, Supplement and Recovery

Elementary Summer Learning Adventure 

Summer Learning Adventure is a free 16-day program for students currently in kindergarten through fifth grade. The program, which is themed NM Wild!,  explores literacy, math, science, social studies, and the arts while focusing on New Mexico plants, gardening, animal habitats, aquatics, and geology. The purpose of the program is to give students extra educational time in a camp-like setting using fun, project-based, hands-on learning. This is a face-to-face program and masks will be required. No virtual optional will be provided.

  • Dates & Times: June 3-30, 2021, 8 to 11:30 a.m., Mondays-Thursdays
  • Locations: Manzano Mesa, Lew Wallace, Valle Vista, Petroglyph, Duranes, Hodgin, and Zuni elementary schools and George I. Sanchez Collaborative Community School. Spaces limited.  
  • Lunch: Grab and Go
  • Transportation: Not provided
  • Cost: Free 

High School Credit Recovery 

Students who were enrolled at an APS high school this school year are eligible to take up to four half-credit courses for free! Classes will be offered through eCADEMY. Students will work online at home, on their own schedule, with an eCADEMY teacher to support them remotely. 

In-person labs and tutors will be available at all APS high schools.

  • Dates: 
    • Term 1: June 7-25
    • Term 2: June 28-July 19
  • Registration: Students register with their home counselor for the remainder of this school year. After May 25 registration is through eCADEMY.
  • Cost: Credit recovery is free 

Indian Education Cultural Enrichment Programs 

UPDATE: As of May 25, the Summer Culture Enrichment Program is full. Spaces are still available for the GradPoint Credit Recovery Program.

Eligible Native American students who attend APS schools are welcomed to participate for free. Registration will open on April 26. 

  • Programs include:
    • Cultural Enrichment: K-12
    • Indigenous Language: K-12
    • Robotics: 6-8
    • Gradpoint Credit Recovery:9-12
    • Navajo: 10-12
    • Zuni: K-12
  • Dates & Times:
    • Cultural Enrichment: June 1- 24, 8 a.m. to noon 
    • Native Languages: June 1-24, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 
    • Gradpoint: June 1-June 24, 8 a.m. to noon or 12:30-4:30 p.m. 
  • Location: Valley High School, 1505 Candelaria Road
  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch served daily
  • Cost: Free to APS Native American students

English Language Development/Spanish Language Arts Credit Recovery 

Any high school student pursuing the APS Bilingual Seal and/or the State Seal of Bilingualism and Biliteracy has the opportunity to take classes over the summer to fulfill requirements and stay on track to earn their bilingual seal for graduation.

The courses being offered through APS Language and Cultural Equity are online. Teachers will deliver instruction remotely with a combination of synchronous and asynchronous activities. Students may recover half or full credits in the areas below depending on their needs.

  • Credit Recovery Areas:
    • ELD 1 & 2 (Grades 9-12)
    • ELD 3 & 4 (Grades 9-12)
    • Spanish Language Arts I
    • Spanish Language Arts II
    • Bilingual World History
  • Dates:
    • Term 1: June 7-25
    • Term 2: June 28-July 19
  • Registration: Students will register with their bilingual coordinator or home counselor.
  • Cost: No cost for credit recovery

Pre-K Enrichment 

The APS PreK Summer Learning Enrichment program is a hands-on learning environment designed to meet the needs of the whole child through experiential learning experiences across all skill domains.  Attention to each child is the heart of the program. Every child is appreciated and their uniqueness is a strength. Thoughtfully planned activities supporting each child’s social and emotional well-being, physical growth, and academic readiness for kindergarten entry in the fall.  

  • Dates & Times: June 3-30, 8 to 11:30 a.m., Mondays-Thursdays
  • Locations: Manzano Mesa, Valle Vista, Duranes, and Zuni
  • Lunch: Grab and Go
  • Transportation: Not provided
  • Enrollment: Open to current APS PreK children. Spaces are limited. 
  • Age requirement: Children must be age 5 before September 1, 2021.
