This month's honorees include a health assistant, a musical instrument repair specialist, a secretary and a custodian.

Albuquerque Public Schools is proud of the many dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to support students. Now in its eighth year, the Employee Recognition Program honors these outstanding staff members.

This recognition is made possible through the support of TIG and the APS Education Foundation, which partner each month to celebrate outstanding APS support staff.⁠ The honorees will be featured on APS electronic billboards around town and honored at a reception. They will also receive a lasting memento.

Elizabeth Aronson – Health Assistant, Whittier Elementary School
For nearly 19 years, Elizabeth Aronson has been a steady, compassionate presence in the Health Office at Whittier Elementary. Known for her professionalism and deep care for others, Aronson supports a constant flow of students while always making time for colleagues who need help. Students trust Aronson not just for first aid, but for comfort and reassurance. Her calm voice, gentle demeanor and genuine kindness help students feel safe and cared for, especially during moments when they need it most.

Aronson’s impact extends far beyond her daily responsibilities. She builds meaningful relationships with families, particularly those with children who have chronic health needs, earning their trust through years of consistent care. As a teammate, she is patient, supportive and generous with her knowledge, always willing to guide and reassure others. Her strong work ethic and selfless dedication reflect her deep commitment to the Whittier community. Whether she is supporting a colleague, comforting a student, or quietly going above and beyond, Aronson truly represents the heart of public education.

Catherine Cunningham – Musical Instrument Repair Specialist, Visual and Performing Arts
Catherine Cunningham has been a trusted and constant presence supporting music education across APS for more than 30 years. Highly skilled in her craft, Cunningham not only repairs instruments with exceptional care but also takes the time to explain her work to music teachers, helping them better understand how to maintain their instruments. Her friendly demeanor and willingness to serve make every interaction positive, and her expertise ensures students have the tools they need to learn and perform.

Cunningham’s dedication to her role and to the music teachers she serves has made a lasting impact districtwide. While other employees come and go, she has remained a dependable and knowledgeable resource for decades. Her commitment to quality, consistency and service reflects a deep respect for both her profession and the educators she supports. Cunningham’s work, often behind the scenes, plays a vital role in sustaining strong music programs for APS students.

Nancy De Luna – Secretary, Alameda Elementary School
The driving force behind Alameda Elementary's welcoming, community-centered spirit is Nancy De Luna. An integral part of nearly every school event, De Luna willingly supports by setting up, serving and cleaning up to ensure everything runs smoothly for students, families and staff. She regularly helps prepare and distribute food, donates her own time and resources, and can often be found serving meals, sweeping floors, or creating decorations that bring warmth and joy to school celebrations.

What truly sets De Luna apart is her generosity and servant leadership. During Staff Appreciation events, she goes the extra mile by providing personalized gifts that make every staff member feel seen and valued. While De Luna consistently demonstrates professionalism and excellence in her assigned duties, it is her commitment beyond her job description that defines her impact. Her care, pride and dedication embody the heart of Alameda Elementary and make her deeply deserving of this recognition. 

Patricia Soto Palma – Custodian, Atrisco Heritage Academy High School
Patricia Soto Palma takes great pride in ensuring Atrisco Heritage Academy High School is clean, safe and welcoming for everyone who enters its doors. Assigned to the gym area and Family Center, she consistently maintains both spaces with care and attention to detail. In a large campus, Palma is always willing to help wherever she is needed. Her reliability, positivity and strong work ethic make a difference every day.

Palma’s initiative and selflessness are second to none. She does not wait to be asked; she sees what needs to be done and takes action. Whether helping students with small needs, tidying areas outside her assignment, or supporting Family Center activities, she treats the campus as if it were her own home. Her kindness, dedication and community-minded spirit reflect the heart of Atrisco Heritage and make her an outstanding Employee of the Month.
