Myra Barela – Educational Assistant, Chaparral Elementary School
Myra Barela’s warmth, compassion and unwavering dedication make her an essential part of the Chaparral Elementary community. Her nominator said she is known as the heart and soul of the school, and that she has a remarkable gift for connecting with students and making them feel welcomed, valued and loved. Whether she’s offering a kind word, sharing a laugh in the hallway or creating a safe, nurturing space where students can thrive, Barela’s positive energy shapes the school's culture. Her presence is more than supportive; it’s transformative, helping students believe in themselves and inspiring colleagues to lead with empathy and care.
Her impact goes beyond the classroom, creating an environment where students and staff feel uplifted. “Her laughter fills the halls,” her nominator said. “And her joy is contagious—she turns ordinary moments into special ones for both students and staff.” Barela’s influence also extends to new colleagues, helping them feel welcomed and comfortable from the moment they arrive. “She is more than a coworker; she is a role model, a friend and an inspiration,” her nominator added. “Our school is brighter, kinder and stronger because of her presence.”
Curtis Green – School Resource Officer, Cibola High School
The care and commitment Curtis Green shows to the students and staff at Cibola High School go far beyond the expectations of his role. “Curtis is one of the kindest and most respectful school police officers on the force,” his nominator shared. “He treats every student with care, kindness and respect.” Known for greeting students each morning, responding quickly to safety concerns and building trust across campus, Green is a steady and reassuring presence. His background as a firefighter and longtime member of the Cibola community has shaped his approach. He understands the importance of safety, connection and advocacy in a school environment.
What sets Green apart is his willingness to do whatever is needed to support others. “When we are short on custodians, you'll often see him sweeping floors or picking up food from tables after lunch,” his nominator said. He’s even changed a student’s tire in the pouring rain to ensure they weren’t stranded. Green’s commitment is deeply felt across the school, where his reliability and kindness have earned him the trust of students, families and colleagues alike. “Curtis is not only dedicated and hardworking, but he is also a genuinely great person,” his nominator said. “He is more than deserving of the honor of Employee of the Month.”

Shara Lorimer’s dedication to students and staff at Osuna Elementary is evident in everything she does. “Mrs. Lorimer goes above and beyond her EA duties on a regular basis,” her nominator said. “She cares deeply about the students, treating them with compassion and care.” Her calm demeanor, strong communication skills and consistent reliability help build meaningful relationships with students and colleagues. Always willing to lend a hand, Lorimer covers classes, assists teachers and ensures the school runs smoothly, all while offering the kind of care that helps students succeed.
Her steady presence makes her a trusted adult for many students, particularly when they need support in difficult moments. “She works with all of our students, and her calm manner helps them de-escalate and reset when needed,” her nominator shared. Lorimer’s work goes beyond academic support—she provides emotional reassurance and builds a sense of safety and belonging. Through her tireless efforts, Lorimer strengthens the school community and exemplifies what it means to serve with compassion, dedication and heart.
Estella Montoya – Grants & Legislative Projects Manager, APS Finance/Grants Management
Through her leadership and innovation, Estella Montoya has profoundly impacted schools across the district. “Estella Montoya exemplifies the spirit of service, leadership and collaboration at Albuquerque Public Schools,” her nominator wrote. Her strategic planning and hands-on leadership ensured that principals, especially those new to their roles, received tailored guidance on everything from budget management to procurement procedures.
The project’s results were far-reaching. “By maintaining a casual, discussion-friendly format, Estella helped foster strong working relationships between school and finance staff,” her nominator said.
