Kate Gomez – Educational Assistant, Lowell Elementary School

A Lowell Elementary kindergarten classroom shines a little brighter thanks to educational assistant Kate Gomez, whose warmth and positivity set the tone for both students and staff. Her nominator shared, “Kate is one of the kindest and most caring people I've ever had the privilege to work with. She comes in every day with a smile and a positive attitude that instantly makes our classroom a happier place.” Whether she’s helping students learn important social and emotional skills or supporting her colleagues, Kate’s compassion and initiative make her a cornerstone of the school community.

Her colleague added that “Kate truly cares about our students. She works so hard to make sure every child feels seen, supported and loved.” That care extends well beyond her classroom, as she steps in wherever she’s needed and brings humor, patience and heart to every task. Kate leads with kindness and purpose, embodying what it means to put students first. She’s the kind of teammate who lifts everyone around her, making Lowell Elementary “stronger, brighter and better every single day.”

George Melini – Bus Driver, APS Transportation

When it comes to caring for students, APS bus driver George Melini goes above and beyond—literally going the extra mile. His nominator, a school nurse, shared a powerful example: “This week, one of our students accidentally left important medical supplies on the bus. Mr. Melini acted quickly to identify the student and personally returned the supplies to our school.” Instead of simply dropping them off, he made sure to speak directly with the student, offering reassurance and kindness that instantly eased the child’s worries.

“The student immediately relaxed, gave him a big hug and expressed sincere gratitude,” the nominator wrote. “Mr. Melini's compassion turned what could have been a stressful, frightening experience into one filled with comfort and connection.” His empathy transformed a small moment into a lasting impact, reminding everyone that true dedication isn’t just about doing your job, it’s about caring deeply for those you serve.

Dulce Rivera – Dean of Students, Mary Ann Binford Elementary School

At Mary Ann Binford Elementary School, Dulce Rivera is the heart of a supportive, student-centered culture. Her colleague wrote, “Dulce has spearheaded the school-wide Positive Behavior Support approach throughout MABES and actually keeps it alive, relevant and exciting all year long with student and staff input.” Whether leading restorative practices, supporting teachers or guiding students through challenges, Dulce models empathy, reflection and growth every single day.

Her nominator said Dulce leads with genuine joy and interest, and frequently invites “courageous conversations” with students, staff and families. “She makes people feel emotionally safe to reflect and consider change for the better, and she does this while maintaining true respect and compassion for all.” Students, families and colleagues alike look up to Dulce for her authenticity, energy, and unwavering commitment to helping every member of the school community thrive.

Daniel Torres – Multimedia Manager, APS Communications

Behind many of APS’s most memorable visuals and videos is Daniel Torres, a creative force whose work captures the spirit of the district. His teammate wrote, “Daniel Torres has been a cornerstone of the APS team for more than a decade, and in that time, he has become one of the most respected and genuinely kind people in our district.” Known for his patience and willingness to help, Daniel elevates every project he touches, whether through stunning photography, thoughtful design or storytelling that brings APS pride to life.

“His photography and videography capture the heart of APS,” his nominator shared. From billboards and graphics to the celebrated back-to-school video featuring the APS Rising balloon theme, Daniel’s creativity and professionalism shine through. More than his talent, it’s Daniel’s generosity and warmth that stand out. He embodies what it means to serve with kindness and pride, reminding everyone that great work starts with a great heart.
