Deaudra Delapp – Night Custodian, Ventana Ranch Elementary School
Since joining Ventana Ranch Elementary in September, Deaudra Delapp has become an essential part of the school community. Her principal praised her extraordinary dedication, especially during a prolonged shortage of custodial staff. Even when faced with carrying the workload largely on her own, Delapp consistently stepped up, often working overtime to ensure the campus remained clean, safe, and welcoming for students and staff each day.

Her nominator shared that Delapp’s commitment goes far beyond expectations. “She consistently puts others first, stepping in without hesitation to work overtime during an ongoing custodial staff shortage.” Despite the demanding circumstances, she maintains a positive and welcoming attitude while taking pride in every detail of her work. By anticipating needs, solving problems independently, and treating the entire campus as her own, Delapp helps ensure the Ventana Ranch community starts each day in a safe and supportive environment.

Estevan Mares – Athletic Trainer, Albuquerque High School
At Albuquerque High School, Estevan Mares plays a critical role in supporting the health and well-being of student athletes. Known for his expertise, compassion and calm presence, he provides injury prevention, rehabilitation support, and guidance that helps students navigate both physical recovery and the emotional challenges that can come with it. His dedication empowers athletes to persevere, care for themselves and stay focused on their long-term goals.

One parent described the impact Mares had on their family after their daughter suffered a serious injury. “During this devastating injury, we have gained a compassionate, understanding and knowledgeable professional named Estevan Mares.” From preparing the student for surgery to checking in the day after the procedure and guiding her recovery, Mares demonstrated remarkable care and commitment. Even when working with several athletes at once, he remains patient and attentive, focusing not only on injuries but also on the mental health and overall wellbeing of the students he serves.

Chris Marquez – APS Police Sergeant
Sergeant Chris Marquez is a trusted and respected presence on campus, known for building positive relationships with students, teachers and staff. Rather than relying on intimidation, he focuses on visibility, connection and reassurance, helping the school community feel safe and supported throughout the day. Whether during passing periods, lunch or after school activities, his calm leadership and professional presence make a meaningful difference.

His nominator shared that “he makes his presence known during passing periods, lunch time and after school, just to let the community know he is here to keep our campus safe.” Marquez leads his security team with care and professionalism while remaining attentive to the needs of the school community. Always willing to help when called upon and quick to recognize when additional support is needed, he exemplifies dedication, integrity and service in protecting APS students and staff.

Marguerite Yarin – Special Education Assistant, Cibola High School
Marguerite Yarin brings positivity, compassion and dedication to her role as a special education assistant at Cibola High School.
