2021 Summer Learning Adventure

Summer Learning Adventure is a free, outdoor-themed enrichment program for APS Public Schools elementary students.

When is Summer Learning Adventure?

June 3 to 30, 2021, 8 to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday.

What is Summer Learning Adventure?

Summer Learning Adventure (SLA) is a free, 16-day enrichment program for APS Public Schools elementary school students.

The program theme is "NM Wild!" We explore literacy, math, science, social studies, and the arts while emphasizing New Mexico plants, animals, habitats, aquatics, and geology. We will be outdoors daily, learning in a camp-like setting using project-based, hands-on learning.

Our goal is to provide a rich and engaging program that helps students learn, practice, and retain skills throughout the summer. We expect students to learn and try new things, get messy, and engage with activities that will inspire and challenge them in new ways!

Registration

Registration is open until each school reaches its capacity.  We are only accepting registration through our online form. In person or call-in registration is not accepted. Registration is limited to 180 students at each site, on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Eligibility

  • SLA is open to current K–5 APS Public School elementary students. Private and Charter school students are not eligible.
  • Your student's eligibility for SLA and their SLA site is determined by what school your student's learning zone is in.

What information do I need to provide to register?

We ask that you do have your child's student ID number available and that is put on the application for each child.

To be announced.

Behavior Expectations

SLA is a fun, hands-on summer program. It is important that students are engaged and actively participating in the activities.

SLA students will follow the APS Student Behavior Handbook:

Summer violations of the student handbook may result in disenrollment. We want everyone to enjoy the program and stay safe.

Academic Expectations

The program will feature reading, writing, science, and math activities. Our goal is to help students learn throughout the summer and to make the learning experience fun, engaging, inspiring, and challenging.

Teachers may have some at-home tasks for students to complete, so please reinforce the importance of completing those at-home tasks.

Work will not be graded, and students will not earn course credits.

Field Trips

Due to Covid restrictions field trips will not be provided for the summer of 2021.

Transportation

Parents must drop off and pick up their students each day while they attend the Summer Learning Adventure, New Mexico Wild Program.

Elementary Disenrollment Due to Missed Pick Up

Elementary students not met by a parent/guardian or responsible party will be dropped off at APS City Center at 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE. Parents can pick up their students there. Valid ID required.

Students dropped off twice at APS City Center will be disenrolled from SLA. We cannot provide adequate supervision, and we must ensure that students get home safely every day.
