What is the Summer STEAM Experience?

The Summer STEAM Experience is a free, engineering and computer science-based program for APS students currently enrolled in 6th through 8th grades students during the 2023-2024 school year. Current 5th grade students are eligible for Summer Learning Adventures.

Students will engage in a field experience where they learn about an environmental challenge. Students will then return to their school sites to design a prototype solution from one of five pathways (eTextiles, robotics, 3D printing, gaming or film & music) while engaged in a camp-like environment. At the end of the program students will share their prototypes with peers, family members and community partners for feedback and celebration.

Our goal is to provide a rich and engaging program that sparks student interest in pursuing STEM pathways in high school and beyond. We expect students to learn and try new things, get messy, and engage with activities that will inspire and challenge them in new ways!

Behavior Expectations

Summer STEAM Experience is a fun, hands-on summer program. It is important that students are engaged and actively participating in the activities.

Summer STEAM Experience students will follow the APS Student Behavior Handbook:

Summer violations of the student handbook may result in disenrollment. We want everyone to enjoy the program and stay safe.

Academic Expectations

The program will feature activities across all content areas with a focus on engineering and computer science. Our goal is to help students see the real-world application of their learning through a design process that will be fun, engaging, inspiring, and challenging.

Work will not be graded, and students will not earn course credits.
