Additional Information
Behavior and Attendance Expectations for Parent and Students
Behavior Expectations
It is important that students are engaged and actively participating in the activities.
APS does expect all students to follow the APS Student Behavior Handbook:
- 2024-2025 APS Student Handbook for Student Success (English)
- 2024-2025 APS Student Handbook for Student Success (Spanish)
Summer violations of the student handbook may result in disenrollment. We want everyone to enjoy the program and stay safe.
Academic Expectations
New Mexico’s Summer Reading Program is an innovative free program set to empower students from incoming kindergarteners to outgoing eighth graders with focused reading instruction in small groups with trained literacy instructors. This program is being offered free to New Mexico families because reading interventions work.
Students who receive focused instruction can get caught up in important reading skills and gain the confidence they need to be successful in all school subjects. Our goals are simple: enhance literacy, track reading progress, and boost confidence and skills in literacy.
Work will not be graded, and students will not earn course credits.
Attendance Expectations
Dates are given so that families may plan their summer vacations and fun accordingly around those dates. Due to the high demand and limited spaces we do ask that students attend on a regular basis. Students who attend regularly are more likely to succeed academically, including reading proficiently and performing well
Before and After School Program
APS Summer Reading program will work diligently to provide a before and after school program at each site this summer. Although, APS does not determine whether or not a site will have before/after school care. Providers must volunteer to provide this service in the summer. Please contact our Out of School Time office with any questions or concerns regarding this matter@ outofschooltime@aps.edu or 855-9798.
