Two Albuquerque Public Schools middle school teachers have earned the prestigious Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Six more APS teachers were named Golden Apple Teachers of Distinction. They are:

  • Claire Porter, Madison
  • Shirley Pareo Srouji, Jefferson
  • Russell Thompson, Desert Ridge
  • Alice Webb, Washington.

These outstanding educators will be honored at the Golden Apple Tribute to Teacher Excellence luncheon on Friday, April 10 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Albuquerque. Individual tickets and table sponsorships for the Tribute to Teacher Excellence are available through the Golden Apple Foundation of New Mexico, (505) 268-5337.

The Foundation, founded in 1994, works to improve the quality of education across New Mexico through the recognition, recruitment and professional development of outstanding teachers. The Golden Apple Award has been given since 1996 to 130 New Mexico teachers, recognizing that the quality of their teaching is the single most important in-school factor in their students’ academic success.
