Safety Measures

Safety measures for when schools are in yellow (a hybrid of remote and in-school learning). Many of these measures may take place in green, too, depending on the spread of the coronavirus.

COVID Screenings for Students

  • Each day before school, parents/guardians should go through a checklist of possible symptoms and take their child’s temperature. Students should stay home from school if they exhibit any symptoms or have a temperature of more than 100.4 degrees.
  • Students displaying symptoms at school will wait in a designated room until a parent or approved emergency contact can pick them up.
  • Staff or visitors with symptoms or exposure to COVID-19 will not be allowed on campus.

Daily COVID-19 Questionnaires

  • Student Questionnaire: Each day before sending your child to school, please review these health questions regarding your child’s health.

COVID Screenings for Staff

Beginning Wednesday, Dec. 2, all APS employees are required to complete a quick online health screening at the start of each workday. This form replaces other COVID health questionnaires that you may have been using. Daily COVID Self Screenings

Masks and Face Coverings

  • Staff and students are required to wear face coverings except while eating and drinking (with minimal exceptions for students and staff with medical conditions.) This includes in classrooms, on playgrounds and in common areas.
  • APS will supply masks for staff, though they may choose to bring their own from home.
  • Students are asked to bring their own face coverings, though extras will be available at school.
  • Face shields aren't a substitute for face masks.

Social distancing in the classroom.Social Distancing

  • Students and staff must adhere to social distancing requirements, meaning they should be at least six feet apart.
  • Furniture may be rearranged in classrooms to allow for social distancing. Furniture doesn’t have to be removed but may be unoccupied.
  • Elementary art, music, library, and other “specials” will take place in the regular classroom with teachers rotating, not students.

Classrooms and Playgrounds

  • Students should not share books, toys, equipment, or supplies.
  • Students should plan to bring their APS-issued Chromebook or iPad to school each day.
  • Learning outdoors is encouraged, weather permitting.
  • Water fountains are off-limits; students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle. Schools will provide water stations for refilling.
  • Students will wash their hands or use hand sanitizer upon arrival, before and after lunch, before and after recess, and at the end of the day.
