Essay Contests
Hispanic Heritage, Latinx Essay Contests: My Heritage/Mi Herencia
During Hispanic Heritage Month, APS is sponsoring an annual essay contest for elementary, middle, and high school students. This year's theme: My Heritage/Mi Herencia
Purpose
In Spanish, mi herencia translates to “my heritage”. Mi herencia is very important in understanding who we are as people and where we came from. It can refer to your family, your friends, your community, and those who support and make up your identity. Your heritage can be how you gained your courage, resilience, passion, strength, empathy, and pride.
Please reflect on your heritage/herencia and how it has made you be who you are. What makes up “your heritage”? How does it help you in being more courageous, resilient, passionate, strong, and empathetic? How does your herencia teach you about love and acceptance? In addition, how do you acknowledge your herencia in your daily life? What else have you learned from your herencia or how else has it helped you?
Who May Enter
The contest is open to all Albuquerque Public Schools students in Elementary, Middle, and High School.
First, second, and third place winners will be awarded in each division: Elementary, Middle and High School.
