Ring The Alarm: The Crisis of Black Youth Suicide

This is a workshop to provide Awareness and Understanding of the toll Youth Suicides has on Black/African American family life, community and leadership.

The historical suicide rate gap between Black/African American and White youth are narrowing among our youngest. Black/African American children have one of the highest rates of suicide. During this presentation; awareness, treatment, and intervention will be learned in an interactive space. Additionally, this space will create a dialogue affording practitioners to become confident and competent in therapeutic work with Black youth/individuals.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn how Black/ African American youth suicide is a serious public health problem that can have lasting, significant effects on youth, families, peers and communities.
  • Understand the toll youth suicides has on Black/African American family life, community and leadership and how to help.
  • Participants will be provided culturally adapted treatment methods and considerations for working with Black/African American youth.

2.0 hour cultural CEUs will be provided for professionals (mental health, counselors, social work, etc.) for PROVIDER workshop.
