Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest

Tuesday, September 15, 2020, 11:45 AM to Thursday, October 15, 2020, 11:55 PM

Students may participate in the Second Annual Essay Contest (please refer to the flyer and contest cover sheet). Librarians will have a special Hispanic Heritage Collection for students and teachers at each school. We will be kicking off our Culturally and Linguistically Responsive book giveaway in early October, and will end Hispanic Heritage Month with a Facebook Hispanic Heritage Celebration on October 15, 2020.

Purpose

Mi Corazón/My Heart is a term of endearment used often within the Hispanic culture to show love, respect, and admiration. Nuestros corazónes/our hearts are filled with courage, resilience, passion, strength, and empathy - and in today’s world, those characteristics are even more important to lift us up to be our best. Mi Corazón/My Heart also reminds us of health and wellness, which are incredibly important to us at APS as administrators, teachers, departments, and staff. We are all working to support our students, families, and schools. Please reflect on what you feel are the characteristics of tu corazón/your heart. How are these characteristics lifting you up? In addition, how do you lift up those around you? You may write about your family, your classmates, and/or your community.
