Student of the Week: Vernon Rockett

Congratulations to Vernon Rockett, a tenth grader at College and Career High School, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation!

Tell us a little about your school experience:
My school experience has been great. I started high school at Volcano Vista. It is a great school, but I left because an even better opportunity opened up. College & Career High School offered students the chance to take college classes while attending high school. I have been very successful here. By the end of my sophomore year, I will have completed a total of 18 credit hours of college, which is fantastic! I hope to continue my high school career while still going to college because it provides me with a much needed challenge.

What’s your favorite course?
My favorite course is chemistry because of Dr. Bush, my chemistry teacher. In all honesty, I probably would not have given it a second thought, but she really showed how interesting chemistry is.

What are your plans for the future?
First, I plan to attend the University of Florida and get my Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. Upon completion, I am going to go to Harvard Medical School. After I become a surgeon, I am going to enlist in the Navy and serve my country.
