Student of the Week: Emma Gehlert

Congratulations to Emma Gehlert, a 5th grader at San Antonito Elementary, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation.

What can a parent or teacher say about this student?

Emma is very focused and motivated. She sets goals for herself. Emma is very family oriented and caring about her siblings.

Emma served as the Student Council Vice President last year. She took this role very seriously, never missing a meeting. She showed true leadership. The Student Council held several drives for food pantries, the VA hospital, and a toy drive for UNMH Children’s Hospital. Emma took an active role in each of these. For example, not only did she bring in sundries for the VA hospital, but she sought out hotel personnel to donate more for the cause.

The Student Council example is just one aspect that helps illustrate her caring and responsible nature. She helps students when needed and is always willing to try.

What’s this student’s favorite subject? Emma loves reading and writing. "The Sisters Grimm" is one of her favorite books.

What are this student’s hobbies or activities, both at school and outside of school?

Emma loves swimming, skiing, scuba diving, dancing with a focus on acrobatics and jazz. She would like to swim in the Olympics some day.
