Posted January 13, 2020, 7:00 AM. Updated January 10, 2020, 11:14 AM.

8th grader at Truman Middle School

Nusenda Credit Union, in partnership with the APS Education Foundation, highlights an APS student each week.

What Cheyenne says about her school experience: I’ve been fortunate enough to have had some amazing school experiences. When I went into middle school, I joined AVID. Last year I was on the student panel that helped our school become a National AVID Demonstration School. This year I was on the AVID PATH training student panel in front of 350 teachers and principals from New Mexico and Texas. I also am currently taking advanced classes like Algebra I and Pre-AP Language Arts. I’ve maintained a 4.0 GPA all three years.

Favorite subject: My favorite subject is language arts, as well as AVID. I enjoy language arts because I love writing, especially when I’m passionate about it. Writing allows me to use deep, meaningful words to express my thoughts. I enjoy AVID because I love all the collaboration we do as well as the support.

Hobbies and activities: I’m a cheerleader for YAFL’s Volcano Vista Hawks. I love to cheer with all my heart. It’s my life. At school, one of my hobbies is participating in student panels. I’m also on the cheer team for my school as well.
