Student of the Week: Carmen Canela

Congratulations to Carmen Canela, a 4th grader at Kit Carson Elementary School, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation.

From Carmen’s Teacher Mrs. Tena:

Carmen Canela is an excellent student and a very respectful girl. She has made great progress this year. Carmen has remained very motivated and interested in the subjects taught throughout the year. It has been a pleasure to have been Carmen’s teacher. I know she will have a successful school career. We are all very proud of you, Carmen!

Favorite subject:

Carmen’s favorite subject is social studies. Carmen likes to learn about all the states and the presidents. She is a very good reader and this helps her to learn about all current events. When she gets older she would like to attend college and try to become the first female president to help her country or become governor to help her state. Her favorite president is George Washington but says, with a big smile, “President Obama is doing a good job.”

Hobbies or activities, both at school and outside of school:

Carmen writes songs, attends many church functions and collects dolls. She really enjoys keeping her apartment complex clean by picking up trash. She also likes to help her mom babysit, help students read, and help her neighbors.
