Student of the Week Darrius Ortiz

Nusenda Credit Union, in partnership with the APS Education Foundation, highlights an APS student each week.

What Darrius' parent says about him: Darrius is self-motivated and determined to do well in school. He takes responsibility for his own learning and he is not afraid to take risks. He has grown this school year into a leader and role model. Darrius feels like he has turned his life around, by reflecting on his past and striving to be a better person and student. He remembers every day when his teacher tells him to always look towards his future and to make the right decisions. 

Favorite subject?  Darrius's favorite subjects are reading and history. He likes to learn about the past and what has made the world what it is today. He enjoys researching the past and learning about important people that have shaped the world. He loves to volunteer to read to the class and at night.

Hobbies and activities: Darrius likes to play basketball, football, and tennis. He enjoys hiking, climbing rocks, and running outside. Darrius enjoys spending time with his family.
