APS Launches ‘You Need a Teacher’ Campaign
New district campaign celebrates the lasting impact of teachers through real stories from former students.
Albuquerque Public Schools is launching a new campaign aimed at spotlighting the power of educators and the lasting impact they have on students' lives and futures.
The campaign, titled “You Need a Teacher,” will highlight former APS students who have gone on to find success in a wide range of careers—business owners, nurses, electricians, artists, scientists, public servants and more—and who credit an APS teacher for shaping their journey.
“This is about more than nostalgia,” APS Executive Director of Communications Phill Casaus said. “It’s about reminding our community that behind every success story, there’s often a teacher who believed, encouraged, challenged and inspired. This campaign puts those unsung heroes front and center.”
The district is currently seeking nominations of former APS students who are thriving in their careers and can point to a teacher who made a life-changing difference. Selected pairs—student and teacher—will be featured in a multimedia campaign, including billboards, print ads, video stories and social media.
APS hopes the campaign not only honors its educators, but also attracts a new generation of teachers at a time when the profession faces significant challenges.
“Teaching is one of the most meaningful careers there is,” Casaus said. “We want young people to see that impact—and maybe even be inspired to follow in those footsteps.”
Nominations are open now. All members of the community—former students, current employees, families and friends—are encouraged to share a story.
