Teachers Encouraged to Apply for Grants of up to $1,000
Deadline is Monday, Dec. 16.
The Isleta New Mexico Bowl and PNM are partnering to provide teachers with grants of up to $1,000, but they must act quickly to secure one. Applications for the grants are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16.
The College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers Excellence Program seeks to reward excellence in the classroom. Specifically, it aims to “inspire and empower teachers while supporting the unique and enhanced learning opportunities that they create for their students.”
Teachers or administrators at any K-12 accredited school in areas served by PNM are eligible to apply for the money.
Jeff Siembieda, executive director of the Isleta New Mexico Bowl, praised educators in a news release, calling them heroes.
“The least we can do is recognize, honor and support them,” Siembieda said. “Thanks to this partnership with PNM and the College Football Playoff Foundation, teachers around our state who spend money out of their own pockets for basic necessities will have some resources to put into their classrooms and have a tangible impact on New Mexico students.”
Don Tarry, PNM’s president and CEO, echoed those comments.
“Teachers are the pillars of our communities, shaping the minds of future generations,” he said, later adding that PNM recently provided $1 million in funding “to launch an innovative learning program called PNM Power Pros, providing hands-on learning to students to explore skilled-trade careers in the electric utility industry.”
“We are excited to continue supporting education by partnering with The Isleta New Mexico Bowl to provide funds for teachers’ use in the classroom.”
The grants will be presented on the field at the 2024 Isleta New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 28.
