
State Honors APS Schools for Bilingual Programs
East San Jose, Truman, West Mesa among schools recognized for their effective multicultural education efforts.
Nine APS schools have earned the prestigious 2025 Bilingual Multicultural Education Program Award for their outstanding commitment to bilingual education and cultural equity.
The state Public Education Department selected the schools for the honor based on their effectiveness.
Three APS schools received the 2025 Excellence BMEP Recognition Award: East San Jose Elementary, Truman Middle School and West Mesa High.
PED awarded the 2025 BMEP Recognition award to six APS Schools. They are:
- Alvarado Elementary
- Dolores Gonzales Elementary
- Kit Carson Elementary
- Los Padillas Elementary
- Wherry Elementary
- And Polk Middle School
They will be recognized during Bilingual Day at the state Capitol on Friday.
“Schools across New Mexico are nominated for this award, and we are proud there are nine APS schools receiving it,” said Linda Varela, senior director of the district’s Bilingual Multicultural Education program. “The Department of Langauge and Cultural Equity proudly congratulates them.”
