Native Students, Families Invited to College Night
Event will provide information on application process, financial aid and more.
APS is inviting Native American students and their families to a College Night presentation that will offer helpful tips on the application and financial aid process.
The event will be held Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at City Center, 6400 Uptown NE. It is sponsored by Albuquerque Public Schools and One Generation Fund and is open to all APS Native American high school students.
“As an alumna of Albuquerque Public Schools, it’s an honor to return and facilitate a series of College Nights for Native students and parents,” said Dinée Dorame, an Albuquerque High and Yale University graduate, who also served as an admissions officer at the Ivy League school. “These events are designed to provide culturally responsive counseling resources, recognizing and emphasizing the unique experiences and strengths of Native students within APS. I’m excited to support the next generation of Native scholars.”
This is the inaugural College Night, part of the “Being a Good Relative” Native Student Success Initiative. More sessions will be held through the remainder of the 2024-25 school year.
More than 3,500 Native students attend APS schools.
The session will provide important information on:
- The college application process.
- Financial aid and scholarships.
- How to write a college essay.
- Interviews and recommendations.
- Additional resources for the district’s Native American students.
