National Guard Visits Jimmy Carter Middle School
Several students, educators recognized during event.
Students from Jimmy Carter Middle School saw armored military equipment up close and spoke with members of the New Mexico National Guard last week as part of an event recognizing students and honoring several educators.
Major General Miguel Aguilar, the adjutant general of New Mexico, recognized students who participated in the 2024 Governor Summer Challenge program, which focused on literature, physical fitness, finances, and how to build confidence. He also presented the New Mexico Medal of Merit to several literacy instructors and the program lead.
The National Guard had planned to bring a Black Hawk helicopter to the campus, but weather interfered with those plans.
Nevertheless, students enjoyed climbing onto the equipment. The event was aimed at engaging students and encouraging attendance on the day before students began their Thanksgiving break.
