APS schools and teacher Melanie Zuniga receive recognition at National Magnet Schools Conference.

Albuquerque Public Schools was lauded on a variety of fronts during a recent National Magnet Schools conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

Awardees at the conference included:

  • Teacher of the Year for Region V: Melanie Zuniga of Coronado Dual Language School.
  • eCademy High School – a Top Magnet School of Excellence and a 2024 national certified Demonstration School.
  • San Antonito STEM Magnet Elementary School – a Top Magnet School of Excellence and a 2024 nationally certified Demonstration School.
  • College and Career High School – a 2024 nationally certified magnet school.

In addition, Superintendent Gabriella Blakey was a Round 5 superintendent of the year winner, and Francesca Ver Ploegh, the APS executive director of innovation, was reelected the Region V Magnet director.

Various APS teachers, principals and administrators presented during the conference, including Melanie Lucero, Rebecca Carter Keesling, Zuniga, Sandra Castro, Annitra Atler, Clare Wood, Antoinette Valenzuela, Ben Bustos, Kathryn Ramsey, Cristina Benitez de Luna, Lana Greenblatt, Abel Abeita, Ludivina Gomez Castellano and Samantha Schmitz.
