Corporate Volunteer Council, City of Albuquerque Donate to Help Students
Partnership is evidence of a community-wide commitment to APS students.
The arrival of donated school supplies means families with enough to worry about have at least one less concern during the first weeks of school.
Superintendent Gabriella Blakey and Albuquerque First Lady Elizabeth Kistin Keller welcomed a partnership between the Corporate Volunteer Council, the city of Albuquerque, and Albuquerque Public Schools at an event last week that hailed a massive donation to students and their families.
The council, composed of leading businesses, and the city banded together once again to help make the donation a reality. The event was held Friday at the Helen Fox Building, where donated items to the APS Community Clothing Bank are being stored.
A news conference announcing the donation was hosted by Vaisu Bronk, manager of volunteer programs and special projects for the district.
Members of the council include: AON Risk Solutions, Bernalillo County, Fidelity Investments, Gap, Inc., Hart Construction, the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, New Mexico Gas, PNM, Rio Grande Credit Union, Sandia Labs Federal Credit Union, Sandia National Labs, and the United Way of North Central New Mexico.
Dr. Blakey said the dedication of the partners was evidence of a community-wide commitment to students in the district.
“That’s why I’m so grateful to the Corporate Volunteer Council and the city for joining us on a mission: to make certain kids get help with basic needs, like school supplies,” Dr. Blakey said. “When you witness this kind of volunteerism, it makes you feel good about being from Albuquerque.”
