Community Donations Fuel Dime Time, Helping Student Parents Thrive
New Futures High School's on-campus store provides low-cost necessities, easing financial stress and supporting student success.
Juggling diapers and deadlines is a daily challenge for student parents, but a special store at New Futures High School is making it a little easier — and it needs your help.
The school for pregnant and parenting students is seeking donations of gently used baby and toddler items for Dime Time, an on-campus store that provides New Futures students with low-priced clothing, furniture and other necessities.
“The store solely relies on community donations,” said Sylvia Escoto, a teacher at the school who operates the store through her service learning class. "All proceeds from store sales go directly to benefiting our students."
Student parents often struggle with the financial burden of necessary baby gear while pursuing their education. Dime Time addresses this challenge by providing donated items like clothes, strollers, and bassinets at affordable prices. This support significantly reduces financial stress, empowering students to dedicate more time and energy to their studies and their children.
The store also provides a service learning classroom where students learn about merchandising, sales and customer service.
Dime Time welcomes donations of gently used baby clothing (sizes newborn to 5T) and equipment. Drop off donations at the school's northeast parking lot, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. New Futures is located at 5400 Cutler Ave. NE. Please notify the receptionist upon arrival.
Anyone with questions about donating items can contact Escoto at 505-883-5680 Ext. 46234.
