Celebrating the First Semester of the APS Good News Ambassador Program

Posted May 29, 2025, 10:20 AM. Updated May 29, 2025, 1:29 PM.

The new program is helping schools, programs and departments shine across the district.

In January 2025, Albuquerque Public Schools launched a new initiative designed to amplify the many uplifting stories happening across our district every day—the APS Good News Ambassador Program. This network of school- and department-based representatives shares positive news with the APS Communications Department so we can help spread the word across the community.

From heartwarming student achievements and innovative classroom projects to successful school events and inspiring staff stories, our Ambassadors are helping us tell the story of APS—one good news submission at a time.

We were thrilled to receive support from 30 schools, programs and departments in our first semester, and with their help, we were able to share stories from across the district on APS communication channels, including our website, social media, internal and external newsletters, and even with local news outlets. That’s 30 more schools, programs and departments lifted up and celebrated thanks to the time and effort of our first group of Good News Ambassadors.

As a small communications team supporting more than 140 schools, we can’t be everywhere—but with Ambassadors on the ground, we can bring more visibility to the amazing work happening every day in APS. And while participation was modest in our pilot semester, we consider it a successful launch and are excited to continue the program for the 2025-2026 school year. We hope to grow the number of Ambassadors and celebrate even more good news in the coming year.

Here are a few highlights that made their way to our communications team this semester:

Los Padillas Elementary - Los Padillas Hosts Seeds of the Future Spring Break Camp

Mckinney-Vento Program - New Futures Junior Advocates for Foster Students

Atrisco Heritage Academy High School - Atrisco Heritage Academy Drama Club Hosts Skit

Fine Arts Department - DRMS Student Awarded at Earth Day Festival

Thank you to our inaugural Good News Ambassadors for your time and commitment to helping us share the joy, innovation and heart that define Albuquerque Public Schools. We look forward to expanding this program in the upcoming school year and celebrating even more of the amazing things happening in our classrooms and communities.
