Licensure program can be completed in one year.

If you want to make a difference in kids’ lives but don’t want to go into debt to earn the necessary credentials, APS and its partners have a program for you.

It’s called the Special Education Teacher Training (SETT) program, a partnership between Albuquerque Public Schools, Albuquerque Teachers Federation, Central New Mexico Community College and the University of New Mexico.

SETT is a one-year teacher residency program that offers a guided apprenticeship with an experienced co-teacher, all with a full salary – over $56,000 a year with great benefits.

The course offers a 24-credit licensure program that can be completed in just one year, with the tuition covered by Albuquerque Public Schools.

“In this residency program, you will be well-supported and well-prepared to start your new teaching career,” said Ellen Bernstein, president of the Albuquerque Teachers Federation. “The students of Albuquerque Public Schools need you.”

Space is limited. Spots can be reserved by emailing the Special Education Teacher Training program today at or by calling (505) 889-4831.
