APS IST Team holds event to celebrate collaboration
Students also will be recognized for their success on the District's Goal 4.
The Albuquerque Public Schools Integrated Support Team invites employees and the public to an event that will celebrate bridging the gap between law enforcement and families.
Entitled “Change Maker Event: Building Better Communities One Choice at a Time,” members of the IST group will showcase APS Police Department Officers’ dedication to act as trusted resources for help, support and safety.
A key component of APSPD’s work in schools is the Integrated Support Team, which specializes in diffusing difficult situations and working in a collaborative way with students, families, staff and law enforcement. The event also will honor K-12 students in the district who are leading the way in developing essential skills, habits and mindsets as outlined by the district’s Goal 4.
Our goal with this is to help build some bridges between kids in the community and law enforcement,” said APS Police Deputy Chief Steve Marez.
About 50 APS students, many who’ve dealt with the IST group, are expected to attend the event, along with case managers.
The event is Friday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Berna Facio Professional Center, 3315 Louisiana NE.
Organizers are asking APS police officers, detectives and CSAs to engage with families and students at the event. Guests scheduled to attend include U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Kris Celaya, a criminal analyst with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
