Event will be a celebration of culture and an opportunity for high school students to learn and network.
High School students from throughout Albuquerque Public Schools will take part in the African American Youth Empowerment Summit on Saturday.
The day-long event will be a celebration of culture and an opportunity for students to learn and network.
While the event is specific to students of African American / Black heritage, all high school students, regardless of race, ethnicity or background, are welcome.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of African American heritage, fostering a sense of cultural pride and identity. Students will also learn new leadership skills, build community understanding and networks, and connect with peers who share similar personal and community goals and aspirations.
Several students will conduct presentations.
The workshop is hosted by the APS Coordinated School Health Department and will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at College and Career High School, 940 University Blvd SE.
One of the district’s four goals is to expand opportunities for students to develop, nurture, and strengthen their skills, mindsets and habits to ensure success in life. Social awareness plays a critical role in preparing students for success.
The African American Youth Empowerment Summit can be a transformative experience, providing students with the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to navigate challenges and excel in all areas of their lives.
Students planning to attend the summit should fill out the registration and parent/guardian permission forms.
