
APS has 23 National Merit Scholar Finalists
Prestigious designation includes students at four schools, including 18 from La Cueva.
Albuquerque Public Schools had 23 students – including 18 from La Cueva High School – receive a finalist designation as a National Merit Scholar.
The annual academic competition is in its 70th year and is conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a nonprofit organization. Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements, including completing an application, having a consistently very high academic record, writing an essay, being endorsed and recommended by a school official, and taking the SAT or ACT and earning a score that confirms the PSAT/National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test performance.
Of the district’s 32 semifinalists, 23 qualified as finalists. These outstanding students attend Cibola, Sandia, La Cueva and Eldorado high schools.
