APS Announces Student Video Contest

Posted May 20, 2025, 5:20 PM. Updated May 23, 2025, 1:43 PM.

$50 gift cards will be awarded for the 20 best videos submitted.

Albuquerque Public Schools is launching a video contest inviting students to share what they love most about their schools. The contest aims to highlight the positive aspects of APS and create engaging content for the district’s social media channels.

Students are asked to create 15-second videos responding to one of two questions:

  • What's the best thing about your school? (Be sure to include the name of your school in your video.)
  • Who's your favorite teacher or staff member at your school and why? (Again, be sure to include the name of your school in your video.)

Videos will be selected for use on APS social media channels throughout the summer. Best of all, students who submit the top 20 videos will receive a $50 gift card for the merchant of their choice.

Videos should be submitted by June 11 to qualify for the gift cards.

Selected video clips may be compiled into a larger video for events such as the State of the District. Clips may also be used in APS newsletters.

Tips for video production

  • Get your parents’ permission before submitting a video
  • Make sure the lens on your smartphone is clean.
  • Shoot the video horizontally.
  • Speak loudly toward the camera you are using for filming. Make sure you are in a quiet environment.
  • If you are filming without a tripod, try to use both hands to hold your phone. You may also use a table to ground your elbow while filming, or even balance your phone on anything from a stack of books to a bookshelf to a music stand.
  • Make sure the room has good lighting. You want your face to be the most brightly lit thing in the room.
  • Be genuine and speak from the heart.
  • Videos may be uploaded to our Video Submission Drive or emailed to martin.salazar@aps.edu
