APS Announces Major Upgrade to Finance and HR Systems

Posted May 16, 2025, 12:13 PM. Updated May 16, 2025, 12:13 PM.

The current system is more than 25 years old.

Albuquerque Public Schools is embarking on a significant initiative to modernize its finance and Human Resources software systems. The multi-year project will transition APS from the current Lawson system to a state-of-the-art Oracle platform.

“When it’s all said and done, Oracle will allow us to become more efficient, eliminating unnecessary processes,” APS Superintendent Gabriella Blakey said. “Our new finance and HR system will be robust and agile, and it will provide real-time information that will help us make the best decisions possible.”

The current system is over 25 years old, and the company that created it has notified us that Lawson will no longer be supported. The project will involve a phased implementation, with the finance system expected to go live by July 1, 2026, and the human resources and payroll systems targeted for implementation by Jan. 1, 2028.

Oracle was selected through an RFP process. Several other large urban school districts are successfully using Oracle, including Denver Public Schools, the School District of Philadelphia, Montgomery County Schools in Virginia and Baltimore Public Schools.

The $20 million project aims to improve efficiency, accuracy and accessibility of finance and HR functions. The new Oracle system will provide real-time data and eliminate outdated processes, allowing APS to make more informed decisions and save money over time.

Employees will receive comprehensive training on the new system.
