Early Childhood Choice Fair set for Thursday at Berna Facio.

Learning is a lifelong pursuit, and, like most things we strive to master in life, starting early significantly improves our outcomes.

Albuquerque Public Schools, in collaboration with the city, county, state, and other agencies, supports many early childhood learning experiences for 4-year-olds. For the first time, parents and families of preschoolers will have the opportunity to attend an Early Childhood Choice Fair, where they can explore community and private-based preschool programs.

The fair is designed to give families a complete introduction to the 2024-2025 school year programs and resources available to preschoolers in the APS district and help them decide which best fits their child’s and family’s needs.

The Albuquerque Early Childhood School Choice Fair is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 8, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. It will be held at the Berna Facio Professional Development Complex, located at 3315 Louisiana Blvd NE.

APS and community experts will be on hand to answer questions about before and after-care programs, program fees, enrollment requirements, transportation, registration, location options, and availability. The Early Childhood School Choice Fair is free and open to the public.

“We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to our families,” said Allison Gabaldon, Senior Director of APS Early Childhood. “Four-year-olds are ready to embark on their educational journey, make new friends, and establish routines that will set them up for success as they transition to kindergarten and beyond.”

The importance of early childhood education to preschoolers and their families is immeasurable. Early learners get a head start on academic concepts they will use for the rest of their lives. That knowledge spurs confidence and enhances social skills. Early childhood programs also have proven to be financially beneficial to families and society because early learning reduces the chances that children will require expensive educational interventions later in life.
