Congratulations to Our Summer Graduates!
Graduates from APS comprehensive and magnet high schools got their diplomas during ceremonies at the Berna Facio Professional Development Complex.
Albuquerque Public Schools hosted two summer graduation ceremonies on Tuesday, July 26, at the Berna Facio Professional Development Complex, 3315 Louisiana Blvd. NE:
- 10:30 a.m. for Zones 1 and 4, which include Albuquerque, Del Norte, Eldorado, Freedom, Highland, La Cueva, Manzano, nex+Gen, and Sandia graduates.
- 2:30 p.m. for Zones 2 and 3, which include Atrisco Heritage, Cibola, College & Career, Early College, eCademy, New Futures, Rio Grande, School on Wheels, Valley, Volcano Vista, and West Mesa graduates.
About 170 of the 242 students who took summer classes and garnered the credits they need to earn a high school diploma participated in the ceremonies. Five of the students graduated early from high school.
"This is a very diverse group of graduates. They attended different schools. They grew up in different neighborhoods. They took a variety of paths to get to this achievement," said APS Superintendent Scott Elder. "Some of them learn differently than others or had to help support their family. Some of them faced an illness or injury, or just needed a little more time to mature or get motivated. And a handful of them chose to get it done early, taking extra classes over the years so they could hurry up and start the next chapter of their lives. I am proud of them all and congratulate them and their families."
Summer graduation is a colorful event, with students from APS comprehensive and magnet high schools wearing caps and gowns in their school colors.
